EqualLogic Best Practices for Deploying Exchange Server 2010 (on VMware vSphere)
Traditionally, Exchange Server has been a highly transactional application very commonly served by EqualLogic iSCSI SANs. Exchange 2010’s arrival changes much of what you may know about deploying Exchange and its impact on your SAN. At the same time, many organizations are pushing server virtualization into their business-critical application domains, such as Exchange. This presentation begins with a review of the major changes in Exchange 2010 as they relate to storage including changes in I/O characteristics and application-based availability schemes. Then it examines best practices for deploying Exchange 2010 on SAN, particularly within a vSphere environment, and shares sizing test results from Dell labs.
EqualLogic MPIO Tools
Enterprise computing platforms provide iSCSI multipathing software to improve fault tolerance and enhance performance. Dell provides host based components that enhance the native multipathing on Microsoft Windows and VMware ESX platforms by automating the iSCSI session configuration and using knowledge of the SAN configuration to improve IO performance. This presentation will review the design and implementation of the multipathing tools, and discuss setup procedures and configuration options. This is a follow up to the “iSCSI Initiators and Native MPIO across OS’s” session.
EqualLogic Replication – Tips & Tricks
This session presents lessons gleaned from a real world data migration project: Moving a running web application from a physical SUN environment to a Dell Cloud environment with EqualLogic. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of the Manual Transfer Utility and Auto-Replication for remote data transfers. It discusses the pros and cons of different approaches observed in this deployment. Finally the session will cover configuration options and show performance results observed in the data migration.
