Installing VMware Update Manager 6.0 using an external SQL Server 2012 database went fine. Installing the Update Manager client gave an error: database unavailable or has network problems.
The service account for Update Manager service was changed to log on to the remote database as a Windows account with Administrator privileges
The suggestions in this VMware KB did not resolve the issue.
ODBC 32-bit connection was working fine. The Update Manager installation process was able to create tables.
When using SQL Server Management Studio it turned out the service account which Update Manager is using does not have db_owner ricghts for the database. After assigning thos rights the Update Manager plugin installed successfully.
